St. Joseph’s Social and Charitable Club has been in existence for more than 30 years and was formerly known as the Men’s Club.

The Mission of the St. Joseph’s Social and Charitable Club is to:

  • assist the Church in its endeavors to provide sustenance to the poor and needy.
  • promote and provide support to parishioners, both spiritual and economic.
  • advance the fellowship of its parishioners.

The Social and Charitable Club meets on the fourth Sunday every month after the 10:00 a.m. Mass in the Parish kitchen to make peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for the homeless.  Volunteers are welcome to join in this lively sandwich-making activity.

The Club also collects food, personal items, and school supplies from parishioners every month and distributes these items to local charitable agencies serving the poor and the homeless.  Items to be donated can be placed in the wooden box at the back of the church.  The monthly schedule of collection items includes:

January – Socks, gloves, knit hats
February – Soup
March – Canned Meats
April – Pasta and Rice
May – Bottled water
June – Cereal
July – School Supplies
August – Peanut Butter
September – Bottled water
October – Macaroni & Cheese
November – Canned vegetables and fruits
December – Baby items (wipes, diapers, receiving blankets, bottles, etc...)

One of the highlights of the Social and Charitable Club calendar is our annual Christmas Giving Tree for needy children and adults. Generous parishioners provide the gifts and the Club handles the wrapping and distribution. The Club also provides Christmas food baskets for needy individuals in our parish. Funds for the baskets are raised during the year through raffles, silent basket auction, and private donations.

To promote fellowship, the Social and Charitable Club hosts an annual St. Joseph Day luncheon, cooks a traditional Octoberfest breakfast and provides coffee and donuts to parishioners after masses twice a month.

In recent years the Club has adopted our military parishioners who are serving in Afghanistan and Iraq by sending them cards, toiletries, snacks, and telephone cards.

Annual dues for the Social and Charitable Club are $5.00.  The Club’s 2010-2011 Officers are:

  Dean Hinton, President
Judi Hawes, Secretary
Linda Hinton and Molly Bernard, Co-Treasurers

The Social and Charitable Club also facilitates an online Prayer Circle that distributes prayer intentions to participants' email addresses.  Anyone interested in joining the Prayer Circle can email mollybernard@swbell.net to join.

Volunteer opportunities are available with the Social and Charitable Club, and it’s a great way to meet parishioners. If you would like more information about this Club’s activities, please call Molly Bernard at 405-840-4119.

Monetary donations are also welcome and help the Club carry out its many activities. Checks can be made out to St. Joseph Old Cathedral Social and Charitable Club and sent to the Church office or placed in the secure small box in the larger wooden box at the back of the Church.

We invite you to get involved and make a difference!
